Day 7: Wed 27 Sep - Brisbane

19-32, warm and not very windy

The first MEPS session for the day after the morning tea break, so I met Jane downstairs and we wandered over to the centre before the scheduled mornos time for a few coffees, and a catch up with other attendees before the first session.

The first session was another humanitarian session titled Women participation in humanitarian crisis - critical for success, and was all about making it the norm for females, and all the challenges that come with being female, especially menstruation, to be part of a humanitarian team. This is especially important for those nationalities where female patients would rather see a female healthcare worker.

We made the mistake of scheduling the MEPS Business meeting during the first hour of lunch, and by the time we had finished the meeting, there was nothing left, not even a bread roll, even though lunch was supposed to go for another half hour. In general, the food was not very good.

The session after lunch was a military pharmacy session titled Meeting today's challenges and preparing for the future in military pharmacy. One of the presentations was from a military veterinarian who had provided assistance to the Koalas on Norfolk Island during the devastating bushfires of 2020. After the final presentation, there was a regulatory perspective panel discussion.

Overall, the presentations this year were of a high standard, all very topical, relatable and understandable.

After spending too much time chatting after the session, we had to make a mad dash back to our apartments to change clothes to attend the Japanese reception, also at the Rydges rooftop bar. Another relaxed night catching up with people not yet seen at the congress.

Back home for an early night.
